Everyone knows the Neumann U-47 is one of the great mics of all time. Unfortunately some mic makers try to sell cheap tube mics that LOOK like a U-47 but miss the mark -- and for all the usual reasons ... junky transformers that destroy the low end, inconsistent too-bright capsules, horrible "mystery tubes" and gritty ceramic capacitors.
The KEL HM-7U takes a different approach. We start with a quality capsule featuring a K47-style backplate to get the basic sound in place. Instead of crappy tubes and junky transformers we use a proven class-A, dual-FET, transformerless circuit with premium WIMA film capacitors to squeeze out all the rich detail the capsule has to offer.
We also add extra features including a low cut filter to control sub-harmonic rumble, a -10dB pad to help handle extra loud sources, plus a handy phantom power LED indicator so you know when the mic is active on stage or when recording.
The HM-7U has a thick glossy sound with good transient detail well suited to lead and back-up vocals, kick drums and toms, upright bass, woodwinds, piano, mandolin and more.
Comes with a shock mount, swivel mount and flight case.
